Located on west face of Mist Mountain.
Drive @ 5 kms south of Highwood Pass and park at the wide drainage between
Mist Mountain and Mt Lipsett. Hike along creek which involves some thick
bush in places almost all the way to the headwaters of the creek. The route
is obvious up and left. Betwee 2 and 2.5 hours to reach the base.
Start by climbing through a short low angle rock step via a thin vein of ice
to a snow bowl.
Pitch one takes the very thin flow of aprox 70 degree ice to another snow
bowl. This pitch is 58 metres.
Pitch two climbs the short but steep and narrow pillar, to the upper snow
couloir. A 20 metre pitch.
Pitch three follow snow gully and either climb a short low angle thin step
of ice or bypass it on right via snow gully and a short easy rock step after
which is a traverse left back into the gulley.
The option to continue offers alot of low angle snow plodding with the odd
little ice step.
The descent is from fixed rock anchors and a V thread at very base of pitch
A good rack to have would be stubbies, 13 cms and one 17 (for v thread),
lotsa knifeblades, half set o nuts and the smallest camming device to one of
about 2 inches.
