New Routes in Gully #3 (between third and fourth buttress from the East End of Rundle) Also see the other routes in this cirque with this link.

Logger's Root 30m, WI2+; FA- Greg Cornell, Dec3/02

Park at the Canmore Nordic Center and hike the Banff Trail west to the enormous field (25min) where many ski trails meet. At its upper west corner, bushwack up, eventually dropping into the dry creek drainage flowing between the 3rd and 4th Numbered Buttresses. (20min) The falls spill over a headwall low down in the trees.

Climb fat rolls of ice to a 4m near vertical finish. Forms early, fat and wide, nice lounging area, good for beginners. Rap off trees.

High Plains Drifter 85m, WI3; FA-Greg Cornell,

As for Logger's Root, continue up the drainage to an impasse, gain the right hillside and stay on it overlooking the gulley between the 3rd and 4th Numbered Buttresses to the open alpine bowl.(1.5 hrs from Logger's Root) The waterfall is up on the right 10 min. further. This route is easily visible from the west highway overpass in Canmore and spills over a cliffband on the 4th Buttress in the far back bowl. It looks like the letter "S."

Climb to a ledge that is thin in spots. Go to the top on better ice; grade 3 ice entire way. Rap from threads, enjoying the huge alpine environment above the town. Avalanche danger.

WG Note: If you're just going to High Plains Drifter stay on the right (west) side of the drainage on a small ridge; this saves a lot of time, there is a series of decent game trails.
